MPHS General Cheer Information

JV & Varsity cheerleading is a two sport commitment - no exceptions!  
Cheerleaders cheer for ALL home & away football & basketball games!
 All practices, games and other related events are mandatory!

Cheerleading Clinic

Fri., June 27th 9-11:30 AM & 1-3PM @ MP Cafeteria
Cost: $20 (Please bring cash or check)
*Highly recommended-not mandatory! Open to anyone that is interested in trying out for cheerleading. Format similar to tryouts.  Lunch will not be provided, so bring your own lunch. *Please pre-register and send your name, grade, email and/or phone # to Coach Tarlton by June 23. Walk-ins will be accepted, yet would prefer everyone to pre-register for planning purposes.

Open July Workouts
Wed., July 9th & 16th 9-11 AM @ MP Cafeteria
*Highly recommended-not mandatory!

JV & Varsity Tryouts @ MP Cafeteria
July 28th & 30th & Aug. 1st &2nd 10 AM - 1 PM

*Final cuts will be on the 2ndEach individual will be judged on voice, spirit, jumps, tumbling, cheer/motions, athletic endurance, dance ability, knowledge of material, positive attitude throughout tryout week, teacher recommendations and eligibility. All students must be eligible to tryout (see athletic participation form for grade and attendance requirements). Please note that Varsity is open to all grade levels and JV is open to rising 9th & 10th graders. Cheerleaders should practice performing in front of others. 

What to wear and bring to any of the events listed above:

·Comfortable work out clothes. (Feel free to show school spirit!)

·Shoes that you feel comfortable running in & shoes that you feel comfortable doing jumps/stunts in.

·Light snack & water bottle with water or sports drink.

·Hair should be pulled up and no jewelry.  Nails should be cut short.  No long nails! 

·A completed physical & participation form.*Form can be found at the main office or go to http://www.mphs-ptsa.org/sports.htm  and click on physical and participation form. Note that this form will be updated on June 18th, so it may be best to wait and fill this out after the 18th.  The form requires proof of a current physical (within a year) and current insurance.

·Two teacher recommendations - see link to form

·Student/Parent Information & Consent Form - see link to form

***Teacher recommendations & student/parent information & consent form are only needed for tryouts, yet students are encouraged to get them filled out in advance especially the teacher recommendations. Please contact Coach Tarlton if you have difficulties getting the teacher recommendations. 

Things to work on over the summer
•Athletic Endurance/Strength
- Do at least 30 min. of cardio 3 times a week. Run mile under 10 minutes & take a cardio dance class to help with coordination. Sit ups & Push ups!
·Flexibility, tight motions and a load voice!

·Jumps
- toe touch, right & left side and front hurdlers, pikes and double and triple jumps. Do jump drills.

•Tumbling Skills-
. Work on getting your backhandspring, tuck or your next hardest tumbling skill!
